Massimo Rivarolo

Current Role

Massimo Rivarolo is Associate Professor in the ING/IND-06b field (Systems for the Energy and the Environment) since 2024 at the Thermochemical Power Group- UNIGE, Italy. Previously, he was Assistant Professor (years 2019-2024) in the same field. He obtained the European PhD in 2013. His main fields of expertise are hydrogen generation, storage and utilization systems, thermo-economic analysis of innovative energy systems, and fuel cells for maritime applications. He is coordinator of the PhD Curriculum Machine and Energy Systems for the Sea in the framework of the PhD Course Marine Science and Technologies – UNIGE. He is also responsible of the scientific activities in the UniTwin/UNESCO Chair “Innovative sustainable clean energy research & education”, coordinated by UNIGE. He is member of the scientific board of H2IT – Italian society of H2 and Fuel Cells. He is scientific responsible for UNIGE of 3 EU Projects and 2 National PRIN Projects.

Research Activities and Results

  • 80 scientific papers, most of them published at international conferences and journals, with over 1500 citations.
  • Active role in several EU funded projects (E-HUB, MefCO2, OnePlanet, RH2IWER, CyLH2Valley) and national projects (IDRO-Rin-TRAN-GENESI, TecBia, HERMES, Nerehydes, SOFFHICE, NEST).
  • Scientific Responsible, co-manager or participant of more than 10 research projects funded by companies or institutions (i.e. ARERA) operating in the energy sector.
