
Current Role
Associate Professor at Polytechnic School – University of Genoa (Italy) – Dipartimento di Ingegneria Meccanica (DIME). The research activity deals with aspects on dynamic behavior of mechanical system and development of advanced methodologies of data analysis for monitoring and diagnostic. Noise and vibration measurements and analysis. Rotating machinery dynamic analysis. Participation in research projects. Co Founder of SIT Technologies, a recognized spin off company of the University of Genova whose core technology is related to innovative solution based on bladeless Tesla turbine.
Education
- Master Degree (5 years) in Mechanical Engineering with honors at the University of Genova – Genoa – Italy – Thesis: “Performance of a twin-entry automotive turbocharger turbine” (activity in collaboration with Garrett SA).
- Military service as a naval officer (technical military office in Milano – Italy)
- Ph.D. in Fluid Machinery Engineering – Ph.D. thesis: “Investigation on intake and exhaust components of Internal Combustion Engine”.
- National Scientific qualification as full and associate professor in the Italian higher education system for the disciplinary field of 09/A2 – Applied mechanics.
Teaching and Lectures
Teaching activity: Mechanics of Rail Vehicle, Modelling and Simulation of Mechanical Systems, Applied Mechanics, Mechanical design methods in robotics, Mechanical Vibration. Lecturer for the school of Doctorate and for the Master in Industrial Plant Engineering and Technologies (MIPET).
Research Activities and Results
• Machine condition monitoring and fault diagnostics (e.g. identification of incipient surge conditions based on performance and vibro-acoustic data analysis)
• Structural dynamics testing to characterize the dynamic behavior of structures (acquisition of frequency response functions based on hammer impact or shaker testing);
• Advanced signal processing technique for system identification: analysis in the time, frequency and angle domain. Energy system optimization, energy storage.
• More than 90 scientific papers, most of them published at International conferences and Journals, 3 patents (Italy, US and World), 1 awards: 2018 ASME Best Paper Awards.
• Scientific Responsible for the University of Genoa of the EU funded project LOLABAT (GA 963576).
