Current Role
Stefano Barberis PhD.received his PhD in Turbomachinery and Advanced Energy Systems Engineering at University of Genova in 2016. He is a Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in renewable energy sources, project management, techno-economical feasibility studies, research activities on energy storage, hydrogen and renewable energy systems, due diligence, innovation and technology transfer. After his PhD in TPG UNIGE he has worked for 6 years in RINA Consulting as project manager of EU funded projects coordinating different collaborative projects in the field of sustainable energy like PLANHEAT, EVERYWH2ERE, SOLARSCO2OL… He is currently appointed as Researcher and Assistant Professor at University of Genova in the Thermochemical Power Group where he performs R&D activities on energy storage, sCO2 energy systems, high temperature heat pumps and use of hydrogen in innovative contexts.

- Co-Lecturer of “Advanced Power Plant for Energy Transition” for the Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Co-Lecturer of “Innovative Power Plants” for the Master’s degree in Engineering Technology for Strategy and Security.
Research Activities and Results
- More than 60 scientific papers, most of them published at international conferences and journals, with around 400 citations.
- Coordinator of HORIZON EU SCO2OP-TES project and active and various EU (THUMBS UP, RE-WITCH…) and national projects (NEST, SOFFHICE, NEREHYDES,…).
- Scientific Responsible, co-manager or participant of more than 10 research projects funded by companies operating in the energy sector.
- Awarded with the best paper award of the Storage Innovations track at ASME Turbo Expo 2023
- Young Researcher of the Year for Hydrogen Europe Research in 2024
